FAQs and Benefits of Hypnotherapy

HEALING POWER OF HYPNOSIS

What is hypnotherapy?

Basically, it is hypnosis provided by a licensed mental health professional.  Hypnotherapy is a natural and safe practice.  According to the American Psychological Association (APA) hypnosis is defined as a process of a hypnotic induction with suggestions using one’s imagination and all other senses.  People usually feel relaxed, but that is not necessary for the suggestions to be effective.

Is hypnosis an altered state of consciousness?

No.  It is usually a state of deep relaxation similar to meditation.  Altered states of consciousness are usually derived from illicit substances not hypnosis.

Can I be hypnotized?

If you want to be. If you have serious trust and control issues it will be more difficult.  Maybe it is the placebo effect. If so who cares. If it works, work it.
Will I still be in control?

Yes, and no you won’t cluck like a chicken. People who do strange things during stage hypnosis do so because, they want to act like fools.  The stage hypnotist has the advantage of knowing who will be easy to hypnotize, because they are the ones raising their hands to volunteer.  You will resist suggestions you don’t agree with or feel comfortable with.  It is important to use specific language in hypnotherapy so the suggestions are positive and more agreeable for you.  Hypnosis allows people to gain better control over their thoughts and emotions.

Are Audio hypnosis Cd’s effective?

Yes.  All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, so the Cd’s can be highly effective.  The only problem may be that ones that are purchased tend to be generic and not customized to each individual as hypnotherapy- in person is, and the CDs that you will receive.  Or the person who made the recording lacks credentials and experience to know the right suggestions to make.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No, you would eventually come out of it, and in session you would be awakened.  We all go through mini trances throughout the day and don’t realize it.  Can you remember driving on the highway and forgetting to take your exit or not recalling the last few exits? That’s highway hypnosis.  It usually isn’t a problem unless you have other serious problems causing you to fully dissociate.

What if the devil or mean spirits enter my mind or body during hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural God/Goddess given state similar to prayer.  You will be in control and be able to resist anything you feel uncomfortable with and will have a clinician there to protect you, so you can feel safe while being in a hypnotic state. If listening to recordings you will still be protected.
